Introduction
Student Usernames and Passwords can be adjusted (or created) for individual students on the Guardian and Student Account Access page. You can also use the Account Access page to troubleshoot, when students are having trouble logging in to the student portal or cannot view the Class Registration screen. Please be aware of the following pages and settings:
Access Accounts
1. The Guardian and Student Account Access page is used to manage usernames, passwords and portal access. It is located under the information section of the student navigation menu. Select any student and then click on the link named: Guardian and Student Account Access.
2. For individual student credentials you need only be concerned with the first section of the page named Student Access Account. Each of the three fields should be populated.
3. Make sure the Enable Student Access box is checked. If this box is not checked, the student will not be able log in to the Student Portal.
4. Usernames and Passwords can be created or customized by typing into the appropriate fields and then clicking Submit at the bottom of the page when complete. By default, the Username is usually recorded as the student number.
(Note: example below is not using student number)
5. The Password is usually a random 5 digit number. If you need to change the Username or Password, simply type in the new Username and/or Password and then click the Submit button at the bottom of the page.
Apostrophes in Usernames
Students will not be able to log in if there is an apostrophe in their username. Use the Guardian and Student Account Access page to remove the apostrophe if one exists.
1. Search for and select a student and then use the Guardian and Student Account Access page to view their log in credentials.
2. If an apostrophe exists in the Username, simply delete the apostrophe and then click Submit.
3. If you happen to get an error message stating: “An account with this Sign In ID already exists”, it means that another student already has the username that you are proposing. Simply change the username to something a little different. In this case I changed ‘Atoa585 to Atoa586 instead. Click Submit to save your changes.
Scheduling Setup
1. Another page you can check if you are having problems with the student portal is the Scheduling Settings page. Often a student will not be able to see the Class Registration page if their Scheduling settings have not been configured. You can find the Scheduling Settings page in the Courses and Programs navigation menu after selecting a student.
2. At the very least the Next Year Grade, Schedule this Student and Next School Indicator should be populated. The student in this example is currently in Year 8, so I would type 9 in the Next Year Grade field. Ignore the Schedule this Student checkbox - it may or may not be checked at this stage, but should be left as is. Finally, the student in this example is attending Moroni High School next year so I will choose "Moroni" for the Next School Indicator. Click Submit when complete.
