March: Depression in Adolescents

Brother Kent Bills talks through the common symptoms of depression and how one can work through it. Kent Bills is an Adjunct Professor in School Counseling for the Alpine School District in Utah, Salt Lake City.



April: Anger Management

Elder Richard Hooper explains the Anger Spiral. He also speaks about recognizing frustrations and learning how to express one's feelings better. A therapy worksheet and additional resources are provided to support this topic.



May: Same Sex Attraction

Success Story: Engage in English Initiative

Timona Tukuafu shares information about the "Engage in English" initiative run by Liahona Middle School. The purpose of the initiative is to encourage, engage, and enhance student proficiency in English speaking, thinking, reading, and writing. Timona Tukuafu is a school counsellor based at Liahona Middle School.


Main Presentation: Same-Sex Attraction

Sister Pamela Jacobsen and Brother Kent Bills share insightful ways to broach the topic of Same Sex Attraction. A booklet titled Supportive Families, Healthy Children is also introduced, which is a resource to help latter-day saint families with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Children. Sister Pamela Jacobsen, is a retired Director of Comprehensive Counseling from the Davis School District in Utah, Salt Lake City. Brother Kent Bills is an Adjunct Professor in School Counseling for the  Alpine School District in Utah, Salt Lake City.

Jeremy Higgins briefly introduces the new "Counselling" section of the Pacific Schools Knowledge Base (FreshDesk) and discusses how to access counselling resources.



July: Supporting At-Risk Students

During the July meeting, Brother Kent Bills shared insights about identifying, supporting, and creating individualized success plans for at-risk students. Brother Kent Bills is an Adjunct Professor in School Counseling for the Alpine School District in Utah, Salt Lake City.



September: Self-Esteem

During the September meeting, Pam Jacobsen presented on the topic of Self-Esteem, outlining steps that can be used with students to direct and guide their thinking about who they are. Jonathan Warwick also facilitated a discussion around the question: "What is your greatest challenge as a counsellor?"



October: SOAP Progress Notes

The October meeting followed a different format from previous sessions. Most of the time was allocated to an open discussion across various topics led by Jonathan Warwick. A brief training slot led by Rich Hooper was held towards the end of the session on the topic of keeping good records.

November: Family Services & School Counsellors

The November meeting included participants from BYU Hawaii who outlined some of the changes and updates regarding BYU Scholarships and their new partnership with BYU Pathway. Some training was also provided for working with Family Services as well as record-keeping in PowerSchool. Counsellors were also invited to share brief reports. This meeting followed a new format that was introduced in the previous meeting.
