POWERTEACHER PRO (PTP) – SEMINARY GRADING

The following alterations need to be made in recording Seminary Grades. Most teachers are already doing the following instructions. These details are for new seminary teachers and assist those that need to conform or check that procedures they are doing are correct. Thank you for your diligence in following these directions.

  1. The Education Board have requested that all Seminary attendance and recognition of completion (attendance, reading and assessments) must be entered into the WISE2 App by the class teacher. Training in WISE is provided by the local Seminary co-ordinator. All Seminary statistics are compiled from the WISE App and must always be kept up to date.
  2. The Area President has advised that Seminary must have no academic grade (a percentage). No percentage grade is to be calculated or shown on a Report Card. Seminary has no affect on a terms average grade.
  3. Students absent from class must also be entered into PowerTeacher for each period the class is held. This is consistent with all teachers in the Pacific Area Schools.
  4. PowerTeacher gradebook is to be used to convey a student’s term results onto the School Term Report Card. The PowerTeacher results should equate to the WISE entry details. For example. If a student gets a No for Reading in Term 1 and does the Makeup work then T2 Reading will be a Yes if all readings are meeting the standard. The T4 results will be the end of year result not just T4 result. Use the WISE summary views to ascertain if completion has/has not been achieved. The following instructions describe the do’s and don’ts for this process.

Seminary teacher’s, please follow these instructions to enter Seminary completion ‘standards’ to provide your student data in PowerTeacher Pro. A percentage and letter grade is not to be calculated.

Procedure: Enter at the end of term the STANDARD results for each student.

Do not enter any assignments, categories, or scores. TRADITIONAL grading is no longer used.

The following image shows a completed Standards score Sheet. (Student names have been covered)

The term column should have NO percentage grade or letter grade. If percentage grades appear then remove the assignments created. You can use the Term column for entering teacher comments about each student that will appear on the report card.

Columns:

SEM OT P/I – This column displays the WISE Pass or Incomplete. This must be filled in every term.

(OT = Old Testament)

SEM OT Attendance – This column displays if Attendance meets the 75% pass completion with a Y or N for each student.

SEM OT Read – This column displays if Reading meets the completion rate of 75% with a Y or N.

SEM OT Assessment – This column indicates, if an Assessment was given, if the student achieved a 75% pass with a Y or N. If no assessment is given then leave the column blank. (THIS IS A CHANGE FROM PREVIOUS GRADING INSTRUCTIONS) There can only be two assessments per year.

Make Up Work – If make up work is flagged in WISE or any columns are marked with Incomplete or No, then enter a comment in the term column indicating that Makeup Work is required and the student needs to meet with the teacher to satisfy requirements. Comments can be given for all students besides the above reason.

Step 1 – Manually indicate the achievements for each student at the end of a term.

These results should come from the WISE recorded results. This data is then compiled to be entered into the Standards scoresheet in PTP.

Procedure:

Open your PowerTeacher as if you are doing attendance.

Click on the PowerTeacher Pro link under a section (Class Name).

When PowerTeacher Pro (PTP) opens you will see the assignments assigned to the class for the chosen term. There should be no assignments used any more.

On the Charms bar (blue bar on the left of screen) click on Grading and then Standards.

The standards score sheet will appear for entry of the assessments.

In each column enter the P/I or Y/N.

The valid entry code’s will appear in the Score Inspector. See P or I in the following image for the WISE column. These codes can be typed into the column for each student or the P/I can be clicked on in the score inspector.

Score Inspector.

Step 2 – Fill columns

If you wish to give all students the same code, a P or Y, then enter the code in the top cell and click the icon on the Score Inspector that fills all cells in the column. After the column is filled you can go back and modify the results to change individual students.

Step 3 – Student Comments

Comments can be added by clicking on the final grades column and use the Speech bubble on the Score Inspector. These comments will appear on report cards and Student/Parent logins. Comments need to be appropriate for seminary standards.

For Teachers who like to keep Seminary Assignments, in PTP,  to record completion of reading and assessments.

If you have entered assignments and scores to record reading assignments then make sure the assignment does not create a final term grade percentage as it will appear on the term grade in the standards scoresheet. The best way to do this is when you create an assignment, remove the tick, in the assignment setup, that signifies “Count in Traditional Final Grade”.

Remove this tick on all assignments so no calculations are done towards a final term percentage grade.
