What is the purpose of the Home Technology Survey?

The purpose of the PCS (Pacific Church Schools) Home Technology Survey is to better understand the availability of internet and technology in the homes of students that attend the Pacific Church Schools. The data collected from the survey will help the Pacific Church Schools improve resources and support for PCS students in the future. The survey asks questions about the availability of the internet and technology in student homes.

Who designed the survey?

The survey was designed and piloted by a committee consisting of three PCS principals and other technology and data specialists from the Pacific Area. The first pilot of the survey was conducted successfully in October 2021.

Who is the intended audience for the survey?

The survey is designed for PCS students. In households where more than one student attends a Pacific Church School, it is recommended that the oldest student from the household completes the survey on their family's behalf. In households where the oldest student is less than 12 years old, it is suggested that a household guardian fill out the survey on behalf of their student.

NOTE: Student participation in the survey is voluntary. By participating in the survey, students indicate their acceptance of using the information submitted for research purposes.

How can schools get access to the survey data?

The survey is hosted on a secure platform and managed by Church employees based in Church Headquarters and the Auckland Area Office. Schools wishing to view data collected about their school can request a data export from the PCS District office at any time using this email address: jhiggins@churchofjesuschrist.org

NOTE: School offices may only request data for their own school. Data from the survey should not be shared with teachers or the public. School office personnel are under obligation to keep the survey data safe and secure.

How can students participate in the survey?

Students may participate in the survey in various ways, but the most common options for collecting survey responses are highlighted below:

SCHOOL LABS: Schools may invite students to complete the survey in school computer labs before or after school, or even during class-time or lunch breaks. This is an effective way to capture responses for large groups in a time-efficient manner.

WEBLINK: Schools may send a web link for the survey to desired participants. The weblink for the survey can be sent to email addresses or posted in Facebook groups or chats etc. Please do not post the weblink publicly, but instead, use email addresses, or closed groups and chats to distribute the survey link.

PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS: Schools may opt to have students complete the survey during the parent/teacher interview process. This option is helpful when students require assistance or support from their parents or a teacher to fill out the survey. This is the recommended option for Primary Schools so that teachers can offer translation and support to parents and students while filling out the survey.

SCHOOL OFFICE VISITS: Schools may also invite parents and students to complete the survey on a device with a web browser when they visit the school office.

How long does the survey take to complete?

The survey should take students approximately 5 minutes to complete. A little more time may be required for participants who struggle with English. Teachers are encouraged to support this process as required.
